How do we support the family?

We offer group family therapy and, if needed, support for each family member respectively as well as extended family members, if this is felt appropriate.

At times we recommend the 12 Step Fellowships for additional support. Liaising between family and schools is also encouraged, whilst maintaining the confidentially of the individual at all times.

Mental Health

Mental Health problems are increasingly common and can have a chronic and debilitating impact on the life of the individual. We combine our specialist and therapeutic expertise to provide help for depression, anxieties, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive compulsive disorders.

Alcohol and Drugs

Alcohol and drug abuse, particularly amongst children and adolescents, are the most widespread and destructive behaviours today. The impact these behaviours cause to the individual, their family, peers and schools are devastating.

Eating disorders - pea on empty plate

Eating Disorders

These include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and compulsive overeating. We address issues such as perfectionism, control and the chronic nature that is central to eating disorders.

As eating disorders are unique, each recovery program is individually tailored, working towards self-acceptance and encouraging the individual on the path to recovery.

Self Harm

Self Harm

For some individuals, self-harm can be a coping mechanism when confronted with overwhelming feelings of pain and distress. By hurting themselves, but without suicidal intent, they may feel better for a short period and more able to manage their lives. The most common behaviours of self-harm include: scratching, cutting, burning or scalding, hair pulling, scouring or scrubbing the body, swallowing harmful substances, etc.

Peer Relationships

An individual's struggle with behavioural issues can reverberate throughout their peer group. Whilst peers wish to remain extremely loyal and supportive to the individual, the impact of the issues on others can be overwhelming. It is often exceptionally challenging for peers to understand and know when it is appropriate to continue to enable the individual or to seek help.

Bullying - child head in arms

Bullying

This is an ever expanding, sensitive topic. Diana Sharp Consultancy are highly aware of how complex an issue bullying is for the victim, the bully, families, peers and schools. In light of this all our assessments are unique, taking into account the many guises bullying can take.
